Education!!

Since the topic is not that entertaining thus my blog this time is adapted to the tone of voice of it.

‘Education’ is a changing, contested and often highly personalised, historically and politically constructed concept. For the purpose of education, it is to cultivate the mind so that the individual can accomplish all his/her aims in life. Education should enable the individual to use the full potential of the ability to make the best use of one's personality, surroundings and circumstances in order to accomplish the maximum in life for oneself and for others.

Broadly, education has two goals which are mutually dependent, cultivation and development of the individual and the improvement of society. This means individuals make up the society which helps improving the society with the improvement of the individuals who make it up. Therefore, it can be inferred that individual is the heart of society.

In conclusion, the aims of education are to foster the individual's inner freedom and development towards the self-initiated action and acceptance of responsibility for one's own actions, self-direction and intelligent decision making, critical learning and evaluation of others, acquisition of knowledge for resolution of problems, intelligent and flexible adaptation to new situations, creative utilization of experiential learning in adaptation to new situations, effective cooperation with others, self-motivation and a desire to work for one's own purposes.

Me, Myself and English

English, a medium language which is used in almost all countries all over the world, is the crucial thing for someone for some reason which depends on one's background and way of living.

For me, It is important as it's a pathway to achieve my goal in career. Moreover, its pronunciation is beautiful especially BBC English which induced me to study here.

For Thai people, the strongest part of them is reading because it is the part that we have been assigned to practice for the exams in every single level we are in. And the weakest parts seem to be the rest, writing, speaking and listening, since we don't have many chances to contact with foreigners except the people who are taught in English in their international college or people who work in the foreign company or who deal with foreign company.

I can barely say those parts used to be wack to me. The reason why I had been free from these problem is I had been using English all the time when I worked and I have kept practicing mine with my friends from other countries as well as my friends in London. Moreover, I took a speaking course so I have learnt the phonetics and the pronunciation; therefore, I have a very bit of British English.

Somehow, my speaking is troublesome for one point, grammar, since it is the two-way communication which needs to be responded simultaneously and mine usually be grammatically incorrect which I need to practice more and more. Besides, since English is not my first language, I therefore have  two steps to process for the sake of my listening, listening and translating. I found it out when I watched the film which there was no subtitle. But this doesn't matter for me as a conversation with others English speaker.

Finally, as it is widely said 'No Pain, No Gain', it's absolutely right. It doesn't mean jack if a non-English speaker knows English but doesn't practice, it will never be improved. There are several ways to do it just find it your way to get to know you, yourself and your English.

Impression

Expectation is the strong belief in something that will happen. And, yes, I had expected to be impressed by such a busy city like London since the first day I arrived.

However, sometimes, life is not easy as one expect it to be. My parents' friends had booked a room in a hotel for me in Kingston which is not far from their place but it is way too far from the centre. And it was not what I had been expected for 4 months before I came here!

Eventually, after I had been spending life in a "small" city for three days, they took me to London!! I was so excited on the train all the way to London. I went in town to find my own place in Notting Hill but I couldn't find one that time so I chose the flat in Canada Water. Initially, I thought that flat was pretty nice since it faces the dock.

However, after three months of living there, I found it was not that nice because it is incredibly inconvenient to travel to town which is wack. This is because I had to get up at 6.30 a.m. everyday for a class at 9.30 a.m. although it is not far from my college!! After I had realized that, the UK and the world were in the stage of economic crisis. So I asked my landlord to break the contract and the reason I gave her was my family also suffered from that economic climate and I needed to go back to Thailand. The landlord understood the situation and willingly broke the contract and return me half of the deposit. I said to myself "Thanks Gosh, I could escape from hell eventually!"

I, therefore, moved to the new place in Notting Hill as I wish. Notting Hill is such a lovely area and, in time, it's also funky which is really 'me'. Moreover, living in the centre is easy to travel from place to place there are many public transportations that can take me to many places which helps me exploring London much easier. And I had no longer got up at 6.30 a.m., absolutely yes, it is so impressive because it is London that I had expected.

Then again, life doesn't always be easy. I finished my first master degree and the second one is at LCC. Now I'm doing the pre-sessional English course which I have to get up at 6.30 a.m. to make sure that I won't miss the class at 9.15 a.m. But I will not move anywhere this time because 'London' really impresses me :)
